Fly ash bricks are advanced technology bricks that are comparable to clay bricks. Fly ash bricks are made by adding fly ash, gypsum, lime sand, cement, and water
And water, compressed at 28 Pa (272atm) and cured in steam for two days. The last bricks are left to dry and after 7 days it should be tested for compression testing.
Fly ash bricks are manufactured by using 80 % of ash that is generated from the thermal power station which is a totally waste material. This ash like a fine glass powder and consisting of silicon dioxide (SiO2), aluminum dioxide Al2 O3), and iron dioxide Fe2O3).
Raw material required for fly ash bricks
Fly ash bricks are mainly made of ash, which is obtained by thermal power stations and other places, 80 - 82% ash is mixed to make fly ash brick, ash is like powder to bind it. It is very important to mix plastic clay or cement.
The second raw material is lime, after that, it is very important to add lime which reacts with silica and alumina which are already present in the fly ash and the binder is formed under hydrothermal conditions. Lime content ranges from 20 to 30 %.
Fly ash bricks manufacturing process
Lime is finely ground in a ball mill, sand, or lime, fly ash is added to the ball for 15 to 20 minutes, It contains 3 to 4% water, then the lime reacts with silica and alumina and forms a brick raw material.
The proportion of mixing of raw material is generally 65 to 75 % of fly ash, 20 to 25 % of sand, 10 % of lime or cement, and 4 to 5 % of water is added.
After mixing raw material properly, the mix is shifted on the conveyor belt automatically and the raw material is put down under the hydraulic press that applies 28 Pa pressure on the mix that form fly ash brick.
After molding of bricks, the bricks are dried in sun and air for days, and then curing is done for 3-4 days, many manufacturers cured with steam.
After curing the bricks gain its strength and bricks are ready to test in the laboratory, the brick which crosses the 8 N/mm². are ready to place in the market.
