Fly ash bricks are modern technology bricks that are environmentally friendly and less expensive. Most fly ash bricks are used in the construction industry for any type of brick masonry because these bricks are more efficient and durable than clay bricks. 

Introduction of fly ash bricks

Fly ash bricks are manufactured by mixing fly ash, sand, lime/cement, and water. These are the raw material after mixing raw material are pressed in a hydraulic machine which forms bricks are known as Fly ash bricks.

Advantages of fly ash bricks

1. The lightweight of bricks reduces the dead load of the structure.
2. Because of light-weight of bricks easy to handle and comfortable to work which makes the work quicker and more.
3. Fly ash bricks are uniformly in shape with sharp edges.
4. While doing bricks masonry due to its smooth surface and sharp edges required less mortar.
5. After the masonry of the wall, no water is required for curing these bricks already cured while manufacturing.
6. The compressive strength of fly ash bricks is more than the clay bricks.
7. There is no need to submerge these bricks in water for 24 hours before putting them in the masonry, water spray is enough.
8. Fly ash bricks reduce the wastage of water and it's environment friendly too.
9. No need to do plaster on the wall, due to its smooth surface you can do paint and putty directly.
10. These bricks are less expansive according to 1st class of clay bricks and costly too according to size.
11. These bricks are more durable and permeable, absorb less water which makes the wall watertight and reduces the cause of efflorescence.
12. Due to high compressive strength and toughness less wastage due to transportation.
13. These bricks are more thermal efficient rather than clay bricks.
14. The bricks are easy to manufacture, the raw material is available in the market without any problem. 
15. Required less labor for manufacturing of bricks.
16. No need for fossil fuel to burn the bricks. 

Disadvantages of fly ash bricks

1. Mixing of and inappropriate proportion of raw material cause the damaging of bricks or wall.
2. Bonding with plaster and concrete is less due to its smooth surface.
3. Every fly ash is not good for making bricks, required high quality of fly ash, and other fly ash is used for concrete.
4. These bricks are fit for warm climate areas because these bricks do not absorb heat and not good for the winter climate.
